Traffic Unit
The
mission of the Covina Police Traffic Unit is to promote traffic safety
through education and enforcement. The Traffic Unit works with citizens and
other branches of City and State Government to identify problematic areas
that create traffic hazards. While investigating these areas the Traffic
Unit may utilize various methods to reduce hazards, including Public
Education, recommend engineering changes to the area, or strict enforcement.
The
Covina Police Traffic Unit is part of the Patrol Division. It is staffed by
two Traffic Officers who are assigned to motorcycle patrol and are
supervised by a sergeant and a lieutenant.
The
Traffic Unit’s responsibilities include:

Investigating traffic accidents in which there are serious injuries or
death (For statistics on collisions,

Follow-up investigation of Hit and Run collisions

Filing traffic
related criminal charges at court

Oversight of the
Automated Red Light Camera System

Training newer officers regarding traffic enforcement issues

Writing and
participating in traffic related grants

Enforcing traffic
laws.
