Covina is a General Law City located in Los Angeles County, California, approximately 20 miles east of the City of Los Angeles.

The population of Covina, as of the 2000 US Census, is 46,837.

The City of Covina is located in Los Angeles County. Properties with Covina mailing addresses in zip codes 91722, 91723, and 91724, may not be located within the Covina City limits.

As a general rule, street numbers higher than 2999, are not City of Covina addresses, but are located in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. The County of Los Angeles has local government jurisdiction over Covina properties with street addresses of 3000 and higher.

The City of Covina contracts with the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control for all Animal Services.  Animal Control Officers who respond to calls for service in Covina are based at the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter, located at 4275 North Elton Street in Baldwin Park.  They are responsible for picking up injured, stray, dead, or wild animals within the Covina City limits.
